Most of the important types used by USAAC/USAAF during the war are either featured in a Design Analysis-anchored section of their own or closely allied to a plane — eg, the Wildcat, Tigercat and Bearcat related to the F6F Hellcat — and documented in the primary's section.

There were a variety of experimental types without a close affiliation to a documented type. There were also the training, observation and liaison planes and the gliders which don't have that kind of affiliation. Links to information on those "lesser" types are the purpose of this page, along with survey articles which describe multiple types.
