The Consolidated Model 28 flying boat — Navy PBY, Boeing-Canada PB2B, Vickers Canada PBV Catalina, RCAF Canso, Naval Aircraft Factory PBN Nomad — is arguably the most successful flying boat design in history. First flown in 1935, the type is still in use in the Twenty-First Century. Some have been restored and modified as personal transports, others serve as fire bombers. Probably only the DC-3 excels it in duration of revenue service.
